Would somone tell me the difference between the two careerfields and what difference in work do they have when actually deployed? Usually 11C is a little farther back from the bullets but not always ready for trouble if it gets there.
If I'm wrong, jump in here. I signed up as 11X, at week 7 after we graduated basic and started AIT we were assigned the different jobs.
I received 11B. We didn't have a choice. Quoted: From my understanding you cant choose which one when you enlist infantry. Thank God I didn't get snagged as an 11C. Both are trained to fight as riflemen.
Mortarmen receive additional training in mortars. These days everybody fights, nobody quits. I was a 13B, field artillery crewman. While it is still indirect fire, and we learn many of the same principles, we are NOT the same as 11C's.
They are infantrymen who are tasked with indirect fire capabilities as well. They hump, ruck, and move with infantry units, and carry their tubes, baseplates, bipods, and rounds with them mech excluded. Along the way you will have the basics of mortar gunnery beat into your skulls-learning through osmosis Ft. Benning style! You will have the pleasure of working with heavy, and light i. How hard is it to switch if you get stuck with the one you dont want? Or once you get it are you fucked? Once you "get it" its yours Its actually not that bad, if you are in a light unit you can be on teh 81 which is a Bn asset, and you get humvees.
If you are in a heavy unit you'll be in HHC which is full of brokedicks and retards-instant rockstar by comparison. We all work together as Brothers of the Blue Cord. SGT Christopher Hayden. As an 11C you'll have to do all the same 11B shit but you'll also have to carry a bunch of heavy stuff too.
So, that by default makes 11B "better" but honestly it doesn't actually matter. Every 11C I've ever met was a little weird though, but that's alright too. SPC Kelly Grindstaff 3 y. Yeah we tended to be that way, carry the mortar to a location some of us would get detached to the other platoons.
Did plenty of that I liked taking point or drag and if needed I would haul the hog.
