How is qld op calculated
While core study areas may be assessed differently, students generally need to obtain a sound level of achievement or a pass to earn QCE credits. The QCS Test complements the school-based assessment by contributing further information for the calculation of OPs and FPs for statistical scaling processes.
Completion of the QCE does not automatically qualify students for tertiary entrance. An Overall Position OP or selection rank must also be obtained. An OP calculates a students' ranking within the state based on their achievement in Authority subjects. There are 25 OP bands with 1 being the highest and 25 being the lowest , which are used by higher education institutions to compare students in Queensland for the basis of tertiary entrance. To be eligible for an OP, students must sit the QCS Test and have studied 20 semester units of Authority subjects, including at least three subjects for four semesters each.
The distribution of students across OP bands is as follows:. OPs are calculated using each student's best five Authority subjects. The ATAR provides a ranking mechanism for tertiary admissions. Each level qualification level is worth a different amount of credits. Speak to your VET coordinator or guidance counsellor for more information. There's an option and pathway that's right for you. Whatever you're interested in, TAFE Queensland has a pathway to help you begin your career or embark on further study.
The first level of scaling - within school scaling - is applied to equalise each subject's achievement level within the school. The second stage of scaling - inter-school scaling - adjusts OAI ranks amongst all schools in the state to compensate for the differences between schools.
This is an often misinterpreted stage of the OP calculation process. The QCS test is the only absolute common element between schools, so this is used to determine how well schools are equally assessing students. To ensure a standard level of marking throughout the state, all schools send a selection of student results from each subject, and multiple from each grading band, for verification by a conference of other teachers from around the state, referred to as 'panel'.
Students grades are adjusted if need be depending on the outcome of verification. When all students in Queensland have been ranked and scaled, they are assigned to one of the 25 OP bands. There is a popular belief that certain subjects particularly Science- and Maths-based ones are weighted higher than others in determining Overall Position results. In fact, while vocational subjects are excluded from OP calculations, all authority subjects specified by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority are weighted equally and any combination can lead into receiving an OP 1 the highest grade.
JCU allocates the following selection ranks to completed qualifications either competency based or with a GPA of 4. The assigned election rank can change for graded qualifications depending on your GPA, or how many subjects completed as part of an incomplete Diploma or Advanced Diploma. JCU has various pathway options available for students who may not have the higher enough ATAR or selection rank or who may not met the required subject pre-requisites for entry into their JCU undergraduate course.
